Weekly Greeting

July 6, 2008

Dear Parishioners,

My name is Deacon Kishore Kottana, born and raised in India. My grandparents with their parents embraced Catholicism from Hinduism in the 1870's following a visit by Missionaries of St. Francis De Sales. My maternal grandfather played the organ in the Church while his children sang Latin hymns. They showed a great respect for the Church, its clergy and religious and did charity to the poor. Thanks to the evangelizers from France, our home parish in India has been a source of hundreds of vocations. One of my uncles is a priest and an aunt and two cousins are religious sisters.

My retired parents live in India; dad was a civil engineer and mom a school teacher. They have five children and an equal number of grandchildren. Our family was economically poor for many, many years. We shared clothing and foot wear, ate rice and vegetables. We could afford to eat goat leg or chicken on Sundays only. We did not have a car, refrigerator, telephone, TV or a washing machine. We did not have a house of our own. Later on, the Lord sent us all that we needed.
